July 20, 2021
It's July 20, 2021. On this day in 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon. You can read all about Armstrong, who often chose to praise the team who got him there, rather than himself. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 247 articles, 4 podcasts, 10 press releases, 379 tweets, and 16 YouTube videos 1. Nintendo States No Plans for Models After OLED Switch The Nintendo Switch OLED model excited some and disappointed others, but mostly it reignited speculation about the long-rumored Switch Pro. Nintendo addressed these rumors on Twitter on Monday, stating is has "no plans for launching any other model at this time." Oof. Any chance they're lying? 2. Huawei's New P50 Smartphone Launches July 29 Huawei announced its new flagship phone, the P50, will launch on July 29. Details are light right now, but it's safe to assume (given the tease) that it'll run Huawei's HarmonyOS and use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 processor. We'll have to wait for Huawei (or a leak) to spill the beans on the rest. 3. Peloton to Add a Video Game Feature for Subscribers Your next Peloton workout may soon double as a video game. Known as Lanebreak, only subscribers and bike owners will have access to the game later this year, which lets riders earn points by staying in their lane, reaching their goals on time, and more. Good exercise incentive, or workout trickery? 🦑 Go Deeper Who's excited for the return of Clippy, the animated paperclip that would annoy help you with tasks in Microsoft Office? Sascha Brodsky sure seems to be, and he has some ideas to improve the little helper. 🎱 By the Numbers Huawei's hanging in there Data: Counterpoint Research Huawei had a pretty decent 2020, slowly rising in smartphone shipments and even outperforming Apple a few times. Things took a turn partway through the year, though, and as of Q1 2021, its numbers pale in comparison to Apple's. Maybe the upcoming P50 will turn things around. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
The 2020 10.9-inch iPad Air (64 GB, Wi-Fi) is nearly $100 off on Amazon right now, making it a nice $499. A great tablet for that price? You know what to do. 🤓 Nerd Out "Who needs Shark Week when there's this?" —Molly McLaughlin, Senior Content Strategist Comment sections can be scary and off-putting, but this particular one is pretty nice. Where is it? On the OCEARCH shark tracker app. Who would've thought sharks and their fans could bring joy like this? (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It "Hey, Mario, what time is it?" Image: TAG Heuer For fans of Nintendo and watches, this TAG Heuer Connected x Super Mario watch is either the best or worse thing for you. It has unique Mario-themed details, animations that play when completing activity goals, and more. It's sold out now, but surely there will be another chance to drop $2k on it, right? 🙈 Wait, What? Higher and higher Mice can reach pretty high DPI numbers these days, so naturally the higher the DPI, the better, right? Wrong. Not only can DPI come down to personal preference, but some settings are simply incompatible with certain monitors and resolutions. Remember, kids, bigger isn't always better. 🗞 Extra! Extra!
