July 19, 2021
It's July 19, 2021. On this day in 2000, Apple debuted the Power Mac G4 Cube, a small, cube-shaped desktop computer that was quickly discontinued a year later. Well, they can't all be winners. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 297 articles, 5 podcasts, 8 press releases, 149 tweets, and 10 YouTube videos 1. iOS 15 Updates Won't Be as Limited By Available Storage Beta users have discovered Apple is reducing the available storage requirement for iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS update downloads, allowing installs with less than 500 MB of free space. A reason for the change hasn't been given, but it should make updating overstuffed devices far less finicky. 2. Microsoft Issues Warning About New Security Vulnerability Windows users should be aware of a new vulnerability in the OS's Print Spooler service. If exploited, a hacker could gain SYSTEM privileges, allowing them to change information, install programs, and more. Microsoft's working on a fix, but keep an eye out for any questionable activity. 3. Twitter Adds Captions to Voice Tweets Twitter will add text captions to its voice tweets feature following criticisms about how those with hearing disabilities would be unable to use it. Captions will now be generated automatically when a voice tweet is created, and will disappear on their own. Come on, Twitter, you gotta keep accessibility in mind. 🦑 Go Deeper Amazon was recently approved to monitor your sleep, but who is that good for? Sascha Brodsky delves into Amazon's new permissions, and why you and your bedroom shouldn't be okay with it. 🎱 By the Numbers The US is a small part of something big Data: Twitter, Business of Apps Did you know the US only contributes <25% of Twitter's total users? By the end of 2020, the US accounted for 36M Twitter users, compared to the rest of the world's 150M. Those numbers probably changed in 2021, but we bet the US is still just a percentage of Twitter's total audience. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
The TP-Link Archer A7 Smart Wi-Fi Router is down to $58 on Amazon right now. Dual band, up to 2500 sq. ft of coverage, and it works with Alexa skills?
