July 15, 2021
It's July 15, 2021. It's National Give Something Away Day! Got an old piece of tech you no longer need? Hand it off to someone who could really put it to work. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 347 articles, 5 podcasts, 11 press releases, 399 tweets, and 15 YouTube videos 1. Netflix Adds New Features Aimed at Kids Content Netflix has two new features catered to kids: a bi-weekly kids recap email that parents receive, and a Kids Top 10 row to help kids discover new shows. The email will have media recommendations, coloring sheets, and more, while the top 10 row will work much like other rows already on Netflix. Have fun, kids! 2. Razer Unveils New Refreshed Blade 17 and Blade Base 15 Razer has new models of its Blade 17 and Blade Base 15 laptops, starting at $2,399.99 and $1,799.99, respectively. Both laptops have new 11th Gen Intel processors, Nvidia's 30-series laptop GPUs, and THX Spatial Audio. Itching for a new gaming laptop and have money to burn? This is definitely for you. 3. Apple Reportedly Planning Pay Later Service Apple is considering a 'buy now, pay later' service for Apple Pay, which would allow users to pay for a purchase over time rather than pay up front. Users will have to apply for this service through the Wallet app, though it won't require a credit check or the Apple credit card. Hmm. You have our attention, Apple. 🦑 Go Deeper WhatsApp's View Once feature that deletes users' messages after being viewed once should be good. According to Rob Rich, however, it's little more than paying "lip service" to those who care about their privacy. Ouch. 🎱 By the Numbers Geez, Amazon Data: Business of Apps These streaming services aren't struggling, but it's clear which have the bigger offering. Amazon has an absurd number of movies (nearly 26,000), and it somehow seems even larger when compared to Netflix (3500). At least their TV libraries are a closer comparison. Wonder how much overlap there is. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
A number of Fire TVs are on sale on Best Buy right now, and buying any of them will net you a free Echo Dot (3rd gen). Nothing says 'deal' like discounts + free add-ons. Pick up a new TV asap! 🤓 Nerd Out "Siri, Alexa, and Google Home walk into a bar... " —Bob Schulties, Senior Editor Ever wanted to watch Alexa, Siri, and Google Home answer the web's most searched questions and interact with each other? Now you can. It's cute, and a little surreal, but entertainment nonetheless. (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It Now with a real price tag Image: LG LG's 64-inch rollable 4K TV is finally being made available in the US. Sure, you could previously call an LG rep and go through that whole process, but soon you can just buy it from LG's site like a real product. One small hurdle might be the $100,000 price, but if you really want it—and you do—life will find a way. 🎮 Up-Down-A-B-Start Legends in the sky The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword launched in 2011 to show off the Nintendo Wii's motion controls, but what about the 2021 re-release? Suriel Vazquez over at Polygon spent some time with the game, and came away thinking it never needed such a gimmick to begin with. 🗞 Extra! Extra!
