September 24, 2021
It's September 24, 2021. You already know what day it is: New music day! Sure, it's Friday, too, but we're more invested in adding new tracks to your workout playlists. Enjoy: Apple Music | Spotify ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 499 articles, 10 podcasts, 5 press releases, 348 tweets, and 19 YouTube videos 1. YouTube Premium Experimenting With Video Downloads YouTube is quietly testing a video download feature for Premium subscribers. Some Premium users have noticed a new option to download videos through the Labs page, which explains the feature test will end in October. What happens after that? It'll probably come back as a paid feature in a few months. 2. Twitter Working on a Fix for Disappearing Tweets Ever had tweets disappear while reading them? Well, Twitter is finally working on a solution. These fixes will roll out over the next two months to address the problem, which seems to occur when the timeline auto-refreshes, and when using the iOS and Android app. Our personal solution? Stop using Twitter. 3. EU Commission Wants to Make USB-C the Default The European Commission is pushing to make USB-C the new default, believing it's more convenient for people and will reduce e-waste. It could also end the practice of bundling chargers with devices, which often results in drawers full of old cables. Feels like we're being called out on that last point. 🦑 Go Deeper Seeing Stories features everywhere you go? Get used to it now, because Allison Matyus is here to explain why they're sticking around and how they're going to spread to more platforms. 🎱 By the Numbers Better than ever Data: Business of Apps While YouTube Premium is doing well for itself, this wasn't always the case. Before the Premium rebrand/rework, it was YouTube Red, and it struggled to maintain 3 million subs. YouTube clearly managed to turn things around, and new features like video downloads could help keep the momentum going. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal

In fact, the person behind the impressive Tom Cruise deepfakes thinks the tech can be used to improve movie stunts, games, commercials, and more. You get what you see here, a clock made using Nixie tubes, with your choice of color, an IR remote, and built-in proximity sensor. Admit it, it looks cool. 🎥 Behind the Scenes Still teaching, still learning Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse may be three years old, but there's still more we can learn from it.
