September 16, 2021
It's September 16, 2021. It's National Play-Doh Day! Let's all take some time today to fondly remember this... toy? Substance? Then realize how much better we probably are now without it. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 385 articles, 12 podcasts, 19 press releases, 494 tweets, and 11 YouTube videos 1. Nintendo Switch Can Now Connect to Bluetooth Audio Devices Nintendo has finally added the ability to pair Bluetooth audio devices to the Switch, so you can now connect a wireless speaker, headphones, or earbuds. That said, you can only have 10 Bluetooth devices saved, can only use one at a time, and it's also limited to audio output only. Oh, Nintendo. 2. Apple tvOS 15 Launches September 20 An update for the Apple TV, tvOS 15, launches on September 20. Among the new additions include new categories that suggest movies and shows to watch, as well as spatial audio support when using the AirPods Pro or AirPods Max. Sounds like a good time to us! Get it? Sound? Audio? Yeah, you got it. 3. Microsoft Ditches Passwords for the Sake of Security Microsoft will now allow personal account users to forgo passwords and use authenticator apps, biometrics, and physical security keys instead, as passwords are no longer the most secure way to protect an account. You have to opt-in, though, so you still decide if you want to give up passwords or not. 🦑 Go Deeper No Instagram app for iPad? What's the problem? Rob Rich digs into the reasons it's not happening, and why there's more to it than simply porting the iPhone app. 🎱 By the Numbers Okay, but why, though? Data: CyberNews Online security is important, yet so many people throw caution to the wind and don't take passwords seriously. That's how we get to the above data, in which 7 million accounts have used the name "Eva" as a password in 2021. We can't help but wonder if it's more or less secure than "Ava." Either way, it's bad. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
Logitech's G903 Lightspeed mouse is $100 on Amazon right now, $50 off its usual price. It has a 140+ hour battery, customizable buttons, and it supports right- and left-handed users. Very nice. 🤓 Nerd Out "More sports teams should have giant AR cats." —Bob Schulties, Senior Editor NFL team, the Carolina Panthers, debuted a new AR mascot over the weekend, and we have to admit: it's pretty cool to watch. Unsurprisingly, it takes a lot of work to bring a digital panther to life during a live game. Set it up on your office chair, couch, or on your pillow before bed, and give you body the at-home massage it so rightfully deserves. 🎮 Up-Down-A-B-Start Know Your History: Gamecube Edition The Nintendo Gamecube turns 20 this year, and to celebrate, Engadget took some time to revisit the perfectly square-shaped console's library. From Resident Evil 4 to Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem to Pokémon Colosseum, the Gamecube's library was relatively small, but still mighty fun. 🗞 Extra! Extra!
