SEPTEMBER 17, 2020
Everything worth knowing in tech today, September 17, 2020. It's National Monte Cristo Day, so please enjoy your special lunch thinking of us. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 472 articles, 9 podcasts, 11 press releases, 512 tweets, and 8 YouTube videos 1. Sony Showcases Games and Reveals Price/Release Date for PS5 Sony spent the first 44 minutes of its virtual event today showing off exclusive games like Final Fantasy XVI and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It took the final minute to reveal the PS5's price and date: November 12 in US, 19th worldwide. PS5 will run $499; PS5 digital is $399. We're psyched—you? 2. iOS 14, iPadOS 14, watchOS 7, and tvOS 14 Released Apple made all of its OS versions available today for the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple TV to go along with the various new device releases the company talked about on Tuesday. We're super excited for iOS 14, at least! 3. Google Meet Adds 49-person Grid View and Background Blur Yep, lots of us are still working from home, using various video chat solutions like Zoom, Skype, and FaceTime. Google Meet just upped its game with a huge grid view upgrade and (finally) a blur to keep your kitchen clutter private. 🦑 Go Deeper Coronavirus has affected all of us in different ways, but it's definitely impacting Native Americans, who need more broadband to manage work and social activities. Sascha Brodsky has the deeper dive right here. 🎱 By the Numbers The second rise of Apple Data: BankMyCell Apple has become the iPhone company for a reason: the devices remade how we all think of cellphones. The rectangle of plastic has reigned supreme and spawned competitors who challenge the tech giant even now. 🤓 Nerd Out "It's not what you think!" -Molly McLaughlin, Content Strategist Someone figured out a way to put 1993's version of Doom on a pregnancy test screen. What is this world coming to? Sure, they got other things working first, but Doom is kind of a big deal. Like having a baby. (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It Light up the night Image: Phillips It might cost too much at $200, but this new color-producing gradient light strip for the back of your TV from Phillips is pretty neat. It matches the colors of your room to your TV output, which can really enhance your time at home. 🎮 Up-Down-A-B-Start We'll see you on the other side It's hard not to talk about the big consoles right now as we gear up for the feeding frenzy of next-gen hardware, but it's a sad day when small, indie studios shut down, taking the hopes and dreams of their fans with them. Godspeed, Vlambeer, and best of luck in what's next. 🗞 Extra! Extra! We've got you covered with the best in daily tech news! See the latest on our site or follow us on Google News.
