SEPTEMBER 21, 2020
Everything worth knowing in tech today, September 21, 2020. We forgot on Friday, so here's Lifewire's Oh No, It's Monday (ONiM) Party Playlist. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 312 articles, 4 podcasts, 9 press releases, 219 tweets, and 11 YouTube videos 1. Epic Games Says Goodbye to Fortnite: Save the World for Mac Due to the ongoing spat between Apple and Epic Games, the latter is no longer able to issue updates for Fortnite: Save the World (not to be confused with Fortnite Battle Royale). Starting Sept 23, the game will no longer be playable on Mac, and Epic will issue refunds (they'd better!) to some players. 2. Amazon Will Debut New Alexa Hardware on Sept 24 "Alexa, what's next?" Amazon just set its fall Alexa hardware event for Sept 24. The event is invite-only, so don't expect a live stream, but it's likely the company will show off new Alexa-powered smart speakers, smart displays, and maybe (gasp) something brand new! 3. Spotify's Testing Apple Watch-Only Audio Streaming Some Apple Watch users have noticed they can stream Spotify without connecting to their iPhone. They can instead stream through Bluetooth headphones or over LTE. It seems Spotify is testing this feature, complete with a 'Beta' tag when the feature is in use. Now that's exciting. 4. Oh My, More TikTok News More stuff happened but we're tired of talking about it. Read this if you're interested. 🦑 Go Deeper After a seemingly long wait, Sony finally announced the price and release date for its PlayStation 5, as well as showcased a handful of launch games. Sascha Brodsky takes a deeper look at the next-gen hardware and questions how tempting it really is. 🎱 By the Numbers Amazon just grows and grows Data: VGChartz Amazon's doing pretty well for itself, and showed some amazing growth even before the pandemic. It's only a matter of time before we're all bowing to our new Amazon overlords, right? Who'da thunk it? 🤓 Nerd Out "How do you run out of names?" -Bob Schulties, Senior Editor Hello, Tropical Storm Wilfred. There have been so many weather events lately that we're running out of names for them. Can we call it climate change, yet? (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It The new hotness Image: Samsung Well, the future of smartphones is here. Samsung's hot folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold2, is available for purchase at your favorite outlet. Don't forget to show it off to all your friends when you get one! 🎧 Listen Up That's so meta, dude Netflix became the tech giant it is today thanks to the help of the big media companies that now compete with it. This Vox-created podcast episode of Land of the Giants explores that relationship and how the big guys are aiming to win at the game Netflix created. 🗞 Extra! Extra!
