February 8, 2022
It's February 8, 2022—Safer Internet Day. If you're reading this, you probably spend a lot of time online. Today, please remember how important it is to protect yourself on the web. And, hey, when did you last scan your PC? ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 259 articles, 8 podcasts, 9 press releases, 320 tweets, and 19 YouTube videos 1. Samsung Pulls Galaxy S21 Ultra From US Store Samsung has removed the Galaxy S21 Ultra from its online store days before its Galaxy Unpacked event. Unusual? Not really. Samsung did something similar last year when it pulled the Galaxy Z Fold 2, only to announce the Fold 3 two months later. Guess the Galaxy S22 is actually incoming soon. 2. New Galaxy Devices Will Be Made With Recycled Fishing Nets Samsung plans to use recycled plastics from old fishing nets in its products, starting with its upcoming Galaxy devices. This lines up with the company's Galaxy for the Planet program announced last year, which aims to improve sustainability and minimize environmental impact. We approve, Samsung. 3. 36-Month Contracts Will Be the New Norm for Verizon Verizon is replacing its 24 and 30-month contracts with a single 36-month contract, which will apply to all items that offer a Device Payment Plan. The change "makes it easier than ever for customers to get their hands on the latest and greatest smartphones and tablets with 0% APR." We'll see, Verizon. π¦ Go Deeper Annoyed with how traffic lights function these days and their impact on traffic? Look no further than AI-enabled traffic lights. Let Sascha Brodsky tell you all about their potential to improve the flow of traffic. π± By the Numbers Any other challengers? Anyone? Data: Counterpoint Research Good luck using a smartphone that has no ties to the big 3 wireless carriers. That's not us saying US Cellular is barely a player in this space, but hey, the numbers don't lie. π₯ Today's Hot Deal
This 4K Ultra HD Fire TV Cube is enjoying a sizable $50 discount on Amazon right now, dropping it to $69.99. We shouldn't have to point out how good a deal this is, but it's a pretty good one. Go grab it! π€ Nerd Out "Wordles everywhere!" —Jerri Ledford, Content Analyst While you can play Wordle on your phone or tablet, it's still not portable enough for some people. In fact, one person has managed to port the word game to the Game Boy and the new Analogue Pocket. (Share on Twitter) π You Know You Want It A mighty mini Image: Apple, Amazon Appe's M1 chip has done wonders for its Mac computers, and we think it's about time you joined the fun with the Mac Mini. 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD, the aforementioned M1 chip, and a form factor that doesn't take up too much space? How are you not tempted by it? π Doin' It Right Clean up, clean up! In an effort to clean up our oceans, Razer (yep, that one) and ClearBot teamed up last year to create an AI-powered robot that can detect and scoop up trash in the ocean. It'll take a bit of time to train the AI, but it's worth it. π Extra! Extra! We've got you covered with the best in daily tech news!
