February 17, 2022
It's February 17, 2022—National Random Acts of Kindness Day. Pretty straightforward day, if you ask us. At some point today, just do something nice for someone. We bet they'll appreciate it. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 388 articles, 10 podcasts, 11 press releases, 341 tweets, and 12 YouTube videos 1. Nintendo Plans to Shutter the Wii U and 3DS eShops in 2023 Nintendo is set to shutdown the 3DS and Wii U eShops, cutting off the ability to add funds and make new purchases, by late March 2023. It's a bummer, but not all hope is lost, as people will still be able to access previous downloads after the eShops are closed. See? Compromise. 2. Eve Shows off Its First Glossy Gaming Monitor Display maker Eve is showing off its glossy gaming monitor known as Project Spectrum. The monitor takes Eve's 4K and Quad HD Spectrum models and adds a glossy coating over the screens to reduce glare and improve picture quality. Want one? It's still in development, so there's no release date yet. 3. Google Drive Gets New Filters to Improve Search Results Google Drive's newest feature is a series of search filters that should speed up file searches. These filters include file type, location (such as a shared drive), when the file was last modified, and more. Google's expecting a gradual rollout over the next two weeks, so don't panic if you don't see the new filters just yet. 🦑 Go Deeper Have you looked at the iOS weather app recently? Like, really looked at it? According to Charlie Sorrel, the app has become pretty incredible and provides information we didn't even know we wanted. 🎱 By the Numbers Poor Wii U Data: VGChartz The Wii U wasn't nearly as successful as Nintendo 3DS handheld, but seeing their lifetime sales side-by-side really shows how poorly the Wii U performed. It's kinda wild to see the console never crossed 5 million units in a single year. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
The Google Nest Hub Max with Google Assistant is down to $189.99 at Best Buy right now, giving you a cheaper way to finally introduce a smart display to your home. Check 'em out; they're pretty cool. 🤓 Nerd Out "People were gonna do this anyway." —Kyree Leary, Associate News Editor Valve wants people to flex their creative muscles with the Steam Deck, and has released the CAD files for the hardware so people can design their own shells. We can't wait to see what people some up with. (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It How much is too much for a watch? Image: Louis Vuitton Need an expensive smartwatch with a very, very active watch face? Check out the $3,400 Louis Vuitton Tambour Horizon Light Up. It has 24 LEDs that light up the ring surrounding the face, a custom OS, and a size that'll put the Apple Watch to shame. But, really, this is more about style than functionality. 🎮 Up-Down-A-B-Start PS4 or PS5? Both look great Curious to know how Horizon: Forbidden West looks on the PS4 and PS5? IGN has the performance review for you. Sure, the PS5 is clearly better looking, but use this as a reminder of how good the PS4 still is all these years later. 🗞 Extra! Extra!
