AUGUST 19, 2021
It's August 19, 2021. It's National Aviation Day! Whether you're about to get on a flight, or you're seeing a plane from the ground, remember to give thanks to the engineers and aviators who helped make it all possible. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 345 articles, 9 podcasts, 15 press releases, 411 tweets, and 13 YouTube videos 1. T-Mobile Gives an Update on its Cyberattack Investigation T-Mobile has confirmed that customer data has been stolen. While former and existing postpaid customers are largely unaffected, 850,000 prepaid customers had their names, and PINs stolen. Fortunately, the access point used to gain entry has been closed and PINs have been reset. Phew! 2. Windows 11 Doesn't Want You Changing the Default Browser You can set the default browser on Windows 11, but it'll be a hassle if you miss the initial prompt to do so. If you miss your chance when using, say, Firefox for the first time, you'll have to change individual file and link type defaults one-by-one for the browser you want to use. Ugh. Can't we get a long, Microsoft? 3. Samsung Decides to Remove Ads From Its Default Apps Samsung has decided to stop showing ads in its proprietary apps and widgets, which will take effect sometime later this year. The company didn't explicitly say it's removing ads from every default app, but it has singled out apps such as Samsung Pay and Samsung Weather. Either way, we're happy. 🦑 Go Deeper Our smartphones and tablets are impressive, but not nearly as accessible as they should be. Sascha Brodsky has the deep dive on how that's improving, due to new innovations like Android 12's facial expression controls. 🎱 By the Numbers Chrome? In the lead? Big shock Data: statcounter Last we checked in on the web browser market share, Google Chrome was still way out in front. That continues to be true as of the end of July 2021, but we can't say we're surprised. It's great if you're all in on Google products, and it has the customizability, features, and support to keep you from switching. 🏫 Best Back-to-School Deals of 2021
