AUGUST 9, 2021
It's August 9, 2021. On this day in 1991, astronauts aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis sent the first email from space. How'd they do it? Using an Apple Macintosh portable computer, of course. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 229 articles, 2 podcasts, 9 press releases, 119 tweets, and 10 YouTube videos 1. Microsoft to Unify Its OneNote Apps on Windows Microsoft is merging its OneNote apps on Windows to create a single experience across its platform. The unification will include a redesign as well as some new features, unless you use the macOS, web, and smartphone versions of OneNote, which should go unaffected. Sounds like a plan, MS! 2. Twitter Expands Spaces to More Co-Hosts and Participants Twitter just expanded its Spaces audio feature to allow up to two co-hosts and more participants. With this new update, co-hosts have most of the same privileges as the primary host, including speaking, inviting members to talk, pinning Tweets, and more. Enjoy your new responsibilities! 3. Amazon IMDb TV Streaming Service Is Now on Android and iOS Amazon's ad-supported free streaming service, IMDb TV, now has official Android and iOS apps. User response so far has been fairly positive, though some Prime members still have to deal with ads, and there isn't really a proper search function. That's rough, but expect these to be addressed in the future. 🦑 Go Deeper Home Depot's new program requires tools to be activated by Bluetooth before they're usable. Good? Bad? Sascha Brodsky digs into the situation, and how it revitalizes the conversation about who really owns our devices. 🎱 By the Numbers The US really likes Amazon Prime Data: Business of Apps, Amazon Amazon's Prime subscription service is wildly popular, especially in the US, which has contributed a majority of its users year after year. In 2021 alone, the US is responsible for 147 million of Prime's 200 million users. The company is clearly doing something right, and our support shows no signs of waning. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
These Sony WH-1000XM4 Noise-Canceling Headphones are $72 off on Amazon right now, making them a much nicer $278. You can always use new (and better) headphones, so go pick these up before it's too late. 🤓 Nerd Out "My money, you can have it." —Rob LeFebvre, Senior News Editor If you've ever wanted the PlayStation 2 to get the Nintendo Switch treatment, console modder GingerOfOz is here with the "PS2 Eclipse." No emulation on this one, just pure PS2 hardware in a tiny body. (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It Look, up in the sky... Image: Virgin Galactic Want a spot on one of Virgin Galactic's space tours next year? The company is reopening ticket sales and giving people the chance to get on board.
