AUGUST 11, 2021
It's August 11, 2021. On this day in 1950, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak was born! It'd be another 20+ years before he and Steve Jobs teamed up to create the iPhone and MacBook maker we know today. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 258 articles, 6 podcasts, 9 press releases, 310 tweets, and 11 YouTube videos 1. Google Announces Updates to Protect Underage Users Online Google announced new policies and updates on Tuesday aimed at kids and teens. Among these changes are the ability for minors or their parents to request the removal of their images from Google, and YouTube videos created by those age 13-17 will automatically default to private. Whoa. Nice job, Big G. 2. Android Malware 'FlyTrap' Has Compromised Thousands New Android malware has been discovered that's compromised thousands of users. Distributed on the Google Play store, the malware disguised itself as apps promising benefits like Netflix coupons. Google has already removed many of these apps from the store, but double check your phone anyway. 3. HP Reveals New Chromebook With Detachable Keyboard HP has partnered with Google and Qualcomm to unveil two new Chrome OS devices: the Chromebook x2 11 w/ detachable keyboard and stylus, and the Chromebase 21.5" all-in-one desktop w/ rotating display. Both launch this fall for $599, and seem like perfect upgrades for those all-in on Chrome OS. 🦑 Go Deeper What's it like having an M1 iMac for three months? Let Sascha Brodsky tell you all about it. Spoilers: He's pretty into it, saying it's "among the best computers I've ever used." 🎱 By the Numbers The Androids Are #1 Data: statcounter As we check back in on the mobile OS market share, we see that Android is still in a healthy lead over iOS. As long as Android phones can be produced by more companies than just Google, this will likely continue to be the case. Still, it's fun to see how much the gap closes (or widens) every couple of months. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
