October 8, 2021
It's October 8, 2021. We were gonna talk about how the original Mortal Kombat debuted in arcades on this day in 1992, but it being Friday (with new music!) is probably more important. Enjoy! Apple Music | Spotify ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 445 articles, 9 podcasts, 15 press releases, 492 tweets, and 13 YouTube videos 1. Twitch Says No Indication That Login Data Was Taken in Hack Twitch has officially responded to the leak from Wednesday, citing a server configuration as the reason hackers were able to access the site's information. Twitch also says there's currently no indication that login credentials were taken. Phew! Guess we can breathe a little easier? Hope so. 2. Twitter Testing New 'Heads Up' Warning Feature Twitter is testing new prompts that warn users of heated conversations. Called "Heads Up," it has two different prompts: one is a simple notification stating the conservation is intense, and the other encourages empathy and fact-checking. Will it work? Nope! Your guess is as good as ours. 3. Valve Says You Shouldn't Pry Open Your Steam Deck Valve has detailed how to open the Steam Deck, but clarifies you probably shouldn't. It essentially comes down to how the Steam Deck wasn't designed for user-swapped parts. If you still want to try it, know that you may void the warranty and potentially damage a $400+ handheld gaming PC. Think smart! 🦑 Go Deeper The Apple Watch Series 7 is nearly upon us, and while some of us may skip this iteration, Sascha Brodsky is ready to slap one on. Careful, his enthusiasm can be infectious. 🎱 By the Numbers A stream for every language Data: TwitchTracker We're not surprised that most of Twitch's viewers are English speakers, but it's still nice to see the platform has audiences from multiple language backgrounds. We can't help but wonder what it would take for those English numbers to drop, though. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
Still putting up with TV speaker audio? You shouldn't be. Samsung's HW-A50M 2.1 Channel Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer is down to $179.99 on Walmart right now thanks to a $20 discount. Buy one, set it up, and get the sound you truly deserve. 🤓 Nerd Out "Slow motion + 3D = very confused eyes." —Kyree Leary, Associate News Editor Want to see how a 3D TV works in slow motion? Of course you do. Fortunately, the Slow Mo Guys tackled this very topic, and it's as technical as you'd expect. (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It Look, ma, no keys! Image: August, Amazon We're fans of doing more with less, and August's Wi-Fi Smart Lock (4th-Gen) helps us apply that philosophy to our front doors. Install the smart lock, set it up with your smartphone and digital assistants, then never reach for a door key. Hopefully. Maybe keep the keys nearby, anyway, though. 🎥 Behind the Scenes I remember it being taller Seinfeld's new home is Netflix, but something is off about it. Join The Verge as it breaks down the TV series' new aspect ratio, what it cuts off, and how this isn't the first time it's happened with a beloved series. 🗞 Extra! Extra!
