October 5, 2021
It's October 5, 2021. It's National Do Something Nice Day! A hug? Pat on the back? Compliment or praise? Doesn't matter what it is, just do something nice for someone today. They should feel a little better, and so will you. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 435 articles, 3 podcasts, 6 press releases, 292 tweets, and 9 YouTube videos 1. Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp Were Down Reports of Facebook, Instagram, and more being down began appearing Monday as users around the world took to Twitter and Down Detector to report the issue. Facebook has apparently been able to fix the issue, though it took some time for full functionality to come back to the sites. 2. Apple Makes It Easier to Report Fraudulent Apps Apple has quietly returned the 'Report a Problem' feature to the App Store, presumably to let users report suspicious apps and scams again. The option should appear in an app's App Store listing, but only for apps you have installed, and only for those in the US. Get to snitching reporting, people! 3. Prime Members Can Now Send Gifts With Only an Email Amazon has launched a new feature for Prime members that lets them send gifts by just having a recipient's email or phone number. The feature works as an alternate delivery option if you don't have the recipient's home address, but appears to be exclusive to the US for now. Sorry, international members! 🦑 Go Deeper Do you really need a good office chair? We, and Charlie Sorrel, think so. Ditch those cheap, 'passable' chairs and finally give your back, torso, and neck the comfort they deserve. It'll be worth the cost. 🎱 By the Numbers Too much social media Data: Business of Apps Facebook and Instagram were the second and third most popular social media apps of 2020, and we're willing to bet they're still fairly popular in 2021. Sure, we encourage people to stay away from Facebook, but it's likely its various apps being down made Monday worse for more than a few people. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
The Shark ION AV753 Robot Vacuum is here to replace all of your brooms. It works with your smartphone, Google Assistant, and Alexa, and it's down to $199 on Amazon right now. Pick one up now before this deal zooms away. 🤓 Nerd Out "Charging speeds are relative." —Kyree Leary, Associate News Editor Ready to upgrade to the iPhone 13, but want to know how all the models compare when it comes to charging speeds? PhoneArena has the breakdown for you. Spoilers, they're all pretty similar. (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It "Trash can, arise!" Image: simplehuman Imagine never having to be near your trash can to open it. That's the joy the 58L dual compartment rectangular sensor can from simplehuman has on offer. And while voice control is enough for us, it also has two sections: one for trash, and one for recycling. Finally, everything in one spot. 🙈 Wait, What? Are three bars good, or what? Ever look at the number of bars your phone has, but still don't seem to have a good connection? Apparently, it's all relative. Sure, three bars is good, but you likely don't know how much better it is than two bars. There's no "bar standard," so good luck ever figuring out if you have a good signal or not. 🗞 Extra! Extra!
