It's October 14, 2021. It's National Dessert Day! We really shouldn't have to explain this one. Go treat yourself to a cookie, cake, ice cream, pie, or whatever dessert is on your mind today. We give you permission to indulge a bit. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 415 articles, 9 podcasts, 14 press releases, 472 tweets, and 15 YouTube videos 1. Acer Unveils New Eco-Friendly Laptops If you're hungry for Acer tech, the company unveiled quite a few on Wednesday, including the Aspire Vero, an eco-friendly, upgradeable laptop, the Veriton Vero Mini desktop, the ConceptD 3 and ConceptD 3 Ezel, both with Intel i7 processors, and more. Seriously, it was a lot. Go check 'em out! 2. Some Android Phones Will Track You No Matter What A team of researchers have discovered that some Android phones will continue to track you even after you opt out. It depends on the OS, but based on the research, it looks like most Android variants from Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, and more will betray this trust. Sounds a little shady, to be honest. 3. Windows 11's First Update Makes Its Performance Worse Microsoft has released the first update for Windows 11, but it's unintentionally causing performance on AMD PCs to worsen. How bad is it? Well, according to AMD, the performance drop could be as high as 15%. If you're an AMD and Windows 11 user with sudden, unexplainable issues, here's the culprit. 🦑 Go Deeper Google's suite of apps will eventually resemble the rest of iOS, and Charlie Sorrel sees this as a win for everyone. Not only will Google apps look like they belong on iPhones, but may require less work to develop, too. 🎱 By the Numbers The OS wars continue Data: statcounter As we check back in on our various operating systems across desktop and mobile, we still see Android and Windows sitting comfortably in the first and second spots. Will Windows 11 nudge Windows' market share closer to Android? Or will things kinda stay the same? We're banking on the latter. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
There's nothing like a good, portable speaker for a reasonable price. Case in point, Google's Nest Mini Smart Speaker (2nd-Gen) is down to $25 at Best Buy right now, thanks to a 50% discount. Nice? Of course it is! 🤓 Nerd Out "Can we get remote control pool balls next?" —Bob Schulties, Senior Editor Pool is fun, but sometimes it's hard to land the cool shots you want. Stuff Made Here took this issue to its logical conclusion, building a pool stick that can line up and take the shots for you. (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It Buoyant Bluetooth Image: Bose Bose's new SoundLink Flex Bluetooth speaker is designed in such as way that it can adjust audio output based on its orientation. Better still: you can pair it with other soundbars to extend audio around a space, and it floats in water. Perfect for bath time, or when you return to the beach next summer. 🎮 Up-Down-A-B-Start Still holds up It may have been a decade since the Twin Peaks-ish game Alan Wake released, but as Khee Hoon Chan states over at Waypoint, the recent remaster confirms the game is still as thrilling as ever. 🗞 Extra!
