It's May 18, 2021. It's National No Dirty Dishes Day! Instead of making/washing dirty dishes and splashing water on your Alexa, do the responsible thing and order take out. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 290 articles, 6 podcasts, 9 press releases, 312 tweets, and 8 YouTube videos 1. Apple Music to Provide Lossless and Spatial Audio Support Apple will provide Music subscribers with lossless and spatial audio, with Dolby Atmos support starting in June. Not every song will get the upgrade when the features launch, but there are plans to add more Atmos tracks and label-supported songs/albums. The best part? It's all at no extra charge. 2. You Can Turn Your Amazon Echo Show Into a Security Camera A new Echo Show update now allows you to turn your device's display into a handy security camera. The Echo Show 10 used to be the only device capable of this, but the update includes the first-gen Echo Show 5 and Echo Show 8, too. Head into the Home Monitoring settings and get to snooping watching. 3. Breakout the Google I/O Page Easter Egg Ahead of Google's I/O event, the company hid a cute little Breakout-style game to play on its events page, complete with falling letters that spell out a message from Google. We won't spoil the puzzle for you, but it's pretty on-brand for Google developers. 🦑 Go Deeper Macs and iPads both use the M1 chip, so macOS apps on iPad must be on the way, right? Charlie Sorrel isn't so sure, and explains why doing so could give us the worst of both platforms. 🎱 By the Numbers Turn the music (subs) up! Data: Business of Apps, Apple Apple Music has only grown in popularity since its launch in 2015, amassing over 70 million users by 2020. We wouldn't be surprised if the service was close to 100 million users, too. We say 'close,' because Apple wouldn't let such a milestone pass by without celebration, right? 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
If you need more portable power, the EcoFlow River 600 MAX Bundle w/ solar panel is $100 off on Wellbots right now, bringing it down to $848. Code 'NEW10' shaves off another $10. Grab one now! 🤓 Nerd Out "Well now I've seen everything." —Bob Schulties, Senior Editor Sure, you could grill hog dogs the traditional way, but what if you added a bit of science and levitation? That's what YouTube's NightHawkInLight did, and now we want appliance makers to catch up and sell these. (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It Feel the music Image: Syng Syng's Cell Alpha wants to provide a different kind of audio experience, claiming to be the "world's first Triphonic speaker." At $1,799, it aims to create a room-filling sound field using spatial audio to make you really feel what you're listening to. We definitely want one, if only because it also looks cool. 🙈 Wait, What? Who's watching? Who's listening? Covering the webcam may give some of us peace of mind, but is it really helping? Probably not, thanks to all the smartphones and smart home devices we've surrounded ourselves with, which have their own microphones, cameras, and other sensors. 🗞 Extra! Extra!
