January 21, 2022
It's January 21, 2022, and we've made it to another Friday! Remember to take it a little easier today, then kick back relax, and enjoy the weekend. Here's some music to get you through the day and jam out to. Enjoy. Apple Music | Spotify ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 495 articles, 15 podcasts, 11 press releases, 319 tweets, and 24 YouTube videos 1. Facebook's Messenger Kids Wants to Teach Online Safety Facebook Messenger Kids is getting a new episodic activity series called Pledge Planets. It's designed to teach kids how to handle different social situations, with different mini-games themed around kindness, respectfulness, safety, and having fun. Best to teach 'em early, right? Right. 2. Quest 2 Update Adds Magic Keyboard and Hand-Tracking Support Meta is rolling out update v37 to its Quest 2 VR headsets, which includes adjustments to the UI, Apple Magic Keyboard support, and a new link sharing feature. The update is only available to Android smartphones right now, but iOS support should arrive in the near future. Hang tight, iPhone lovers! 3. Amazon's First Clothing Store Is Coming to Los Angeles Amazon is opening Amazon Style, its first-ever physical clothing store, in LA later this year. The store will have hundreds of brands you can interact with via the Amazon Shopping app, QR codes, and various touchscreens. Sounds neat, but will it be faster than shopping online? We suspect not. 🦑 Go Deeper We want better computer chips, right? Well, Sascha Brodsky wants you to know that new CPUs could soon process like a human brain. Cool? Definitely, but we don't think the everyday person will see them anytime soon. 🎱 By the Numbers Messenger has seen better numbers Data: Business of Apps Facebook Messenger has seen a huge drop off in downloads over the last couple of years, but it's not the only one. WhatsApp, probably Messenger's biggest competitor, has experienced a decline, too. Maybe it's because most of their audiences have already downloaded them. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
Think your kid is ready for a tablet of their own? Instead of starting with an iPad, Amazon's All-New Fire 10 Kids tablet could be more their speed. It's down to $139.99 at Best Buy right now, and should provide them with plenty of entertainment. 🤓 Nerd Out "Imagine the PCs he could build with a higher budget." —Mark Prigg, VP of Commerce Sure, you could work at a big tech company and build computer chips, but what if you made them in your own garage? That's exactly what 22-year old Sam Zeloof decided to do. Very impressive. (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It Listen to those keys! Image: Casio If you're looking to restart your music career, Casio's new Casiotone CT-S1000V may be worth keeping an eye on. In addition to being a portable piano, it also has "revolutionary new Vocal Synthesis technology," which lets you create lyrics on a smartphone, then play it on the Casio. Kinda cool. 🎥 Behind the Scenes Filmmaking done with gravity As if it wasn't already expensive enough to make a movie, UK-based media company Space Entertainment Enterprise has announced plans to build a film studio in space by 2024. It won't just be for film production, though, as it'll also be used to host movie and sports events. Imagine the price of admission. 🗞 Extra! Extra!
