December 10, 2021
It's December 10, 2021. Friends, it's Friday yet again, can you believe it? This weekend, we want two things from you. First, relax with some new music from us, and remember how id Software released the video game DOOM on this day in 1993. Hell of a game. Apple Music | Spotify ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 398 articles, 13 podcasts, 17 press releases, 494 tweets, and 22 YouTube videos 1. Twitter Prioritizes High-Profile Users in Its Project Guardian Twitter reportedly has a secret program that prioritizes popular accounts to protect them from abuse or harassment. These accounts include politicians, musicians, journalists, and more, and is meant to stop "viral nightmares" before they happen. Hey, uh, can the rest of us get some protection, too? 2. Instagram Will Soon Have a Chronological Feed Option (Again) Instagram will soon add the option to see posts in chronological order rather than based on an algorithm. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri revealed the company has been working on the feature for months, and it should let people see more of the posts in their Feed. Finally, a viewing order that makes sense. 3. Oppo Announces Foldable Flagship Smartphone Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo just announced their own foldable flagship smartphone, uniquely named the Find N. Specs and official details are scant, but we won't have to wait long to find out, as the folding smartphone releases on December 15. Hear that, Samsung? Sounds like competition. 🦑 Go Deeper We spend too much time on social media, but features like Instagram's Take a Break could help. According to Allison Murray, though, the feature won't do all the work for you—you'll still need to commit to closing the app yourself. 🎱 By the Numbers Love is love is love Data: Hootsuite You know what's higher than the amount of time we spend on Instagram? The frequency with which certain hashtags are used. Specifically, #love had been used ~2 billion times by July 2021, and we can only suspect its gone up. At least it's a positive hashtag, though, and not something like #phonesmash. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
Need to get a little more range out of your home Wi-Fi network? TP-Link's AC1200 Wi-Fi Extender is down to a mere $29.99 on Amazon right now. Snatch it up and (hopefully) say goodbye to those spotty internet connections. 🤓 Nerd Out "Can't wait to see a robot moonwalk." —Molly McLaughlin, Senior Content Strategist We don't have to be scared of our future with robots. In fact, some of them may end up being great dancers, as shown by the latest project from roboticists at the Georgia Tech Center for Music Technology. (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It "I can't believe it's not paper!" Image: reMarkable Miss writing with a pencil and paper, but don't want to give up the tablet life? You should own a reMarkable 2, a tablet that "feels like paper." Grab that stylus, then get to writing. Oh! And did we mention it organizes all of your notes for you and turns them into PDFs? Yeah, it's pretty great. 🎥 Behind the Scenes Stop-motion is still cool Stop-motion is always impressive to see in, well, motion, but how much work goes into making those kinds of movies these days? The directors of Netflix's upcoming stop-motion animated feature, Robin Robin, sat down to tell Wired all about it. Check it out. 🗞 Extra! Extra!
