April 1, 2021
It's April 1, 2021. It's April Fools' Day! We promise everything after this sentence is true and not a big, elaborate, very good joke. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 401 articles, 4 podcasts, 10 press releases, 401 tweets, and 41 YouTube videos 1. Facebook Makes It Easier to See News Feed in Chronological Order Facebook has introduced a new feed filter menu that lets you control how your feeds are ordered. The "Most Recent" filter will show posts from friends and other sources in the order in which they came in, meaning no more algorithms assuming what you want to see first. Finally. 2. Microsoft Sunsets the Cortana App on Android & iOS Microsoft has shutdown the Cortana app after announcing plans to do so last year. Cortana isn't completely gone, though, as it'll still be part of Windows 10, but don't expect to use it on Android or iOS anymore. Or maybe you weren't already. Either way, so long, Cortana. 3. Apple May Announce a Mixed Reality Headset This Year A new report claims Apple wants to announce its mixed reality headset "in the next several months," but it wants to do so in person, among employees, reporters, and developers. Is it true? A smart idea? Will the headset be expensive? (Probably.) Guess we'll find out in a couple of months. 🦑 Go Deeper HBO Max recently added thousands of hours of audio descriptive content for the visually impaired, but it can't end there. Joshua Hawkins has the deep dive on why digital accessibility needs to be a key part of development, rather than an add-on. 🎱 By the Numbers Too many faces Data: Hootsuite, Edison Research What's more worrying? That 12-year-olds use Facebook or that over 60% of the US does? Either way, it's a pretty significant amount, but it's not the most people to have used it. In fact, Facebook's highest usage percentage was in 2017, when 67% of Americans were giving it attention. Wonder what changed. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
