April 16, 2021
It's April 16, 2021. Welcome to another Friday! As always, here's some music to celebrate and raise your spirits. Apple Music | Spotify ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 343 articles, 10 podcasts, 11 press releases, 413 tweets, and 16 YouTube videos 1. Google Earth Update Adds 3D Timelapse Videos Google Earth has a new timelapse feature that can show how the world has changed over the last 37 years. 24 million satellite photos were used to bring the feature to life, with Google explaining it noticed the many ways forests, temperatures, cities, and more have changed. Go check it out. 2. NVIDIA's Graphics Card Shortage May Continue Through 2021 Don't expect to buy a new video card anytime soon, as Nvidia expects their GPU shortage to persist. In an investor call, the company said that while demand for their hardware is strong, it may "continue to exceed supply for much of this year." Guess we'll hold off on building new PCs. Again. 3. LG's Rollable OLED R TV Is Now Available In the US LG's rollable TV is finally available in the US. Kinda. LG's global site now has an "Inquire to Buy" option, which prompts you to call an LG US sales rep, who, presumably, will help you get one of those TVs into your home. Unfortunately, the site doesn't show any prices, but expect it to cost quite a bit of money. 🦑 Go Deeper Spotify is great, but can be a pain to manage while driving. Charlie Sorrel has the deep dive on Spotify's new Car Thing display, and how it makes it easier (and safer) to control your audio. 🎱 By the Numbers Roads less traveled Data: Business of Apps Unsurprisingly, travel apps took a bit of a hit in 2020 due to quarantine, but still managed to get a ton of downloads. We're not shocked to see Uber and Google Maps topping the charts, but we suspect Google Earth is here because a lot of people took to traveling by phone and tablet, rather than by car. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
Apple's AirPods Pro are $52 off on Amazon right now, bringing them down to exactly $197. Grab a pair of these noise-canceling pods now! 🤓 Nerd Out "No such thing as 'too many robot dogs.'" —Bob Schulties, Senior Editor You've seen Boston Dynamics' Spot. Now meet AlphaDog from China-based tech firm Weilan. We like to think they're both good robo-doggos, but AlphaDog may also one day help the visually impaired. Your move, Spot. (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It Hiding in plain sight Image: Bang & Olufsen What's better than a wireless speaker? A speaker that blends into your home. Enter Bang & Olufsen's Beosound Emerge Wi-Fi speaker, which provides ultra-wide, 180-degree sound, a slim design, and support for Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Chromecast, and Spotify Connect. It's out this October for a hefty $899. 🎥 Behind the Scenes Introducing DJ T. Witch Many DJs pivoted to live streaming on Twitch instead of risking in-person gigs, but how sustainable is it? Noisey's Will Caiger-Smith spoke with DJs, radio hosts, Twitch, and more to find out. Give it a read. 🗞 Extra! Extra! We've got you covered with the best in daily tech news!
