Google quickly confirmed the Pixel 5a's existence following reports saying it was cancelled.

Google Announces Pixel 5a in Response to Cancellation Reports Google has officially announced the Pixel 5a, following reports that it cancelled the smartphone due to a chip shortage. Instead, the Pixel 5a will release in the US and Japan later this year and get a much better reveal soon. We're guessing this isn't how Google wanted things to play out. 2.
