It's April 12, 2021. It's National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day. Make your best grilled cheese and tackle Monday properly. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 323 articles, 5 podcasts, 8 press releases, 427 tweets, and 7 YouTube videos 1. Google Announces Pixel 5a in Response to Cancellation Reports Google has officially announced the Pixel 5a, following reports that it cancelled the smartphone due to a chip shortage. Instead, the Pixel 5a will release in the US and Japan later this year and get a much better reveal soon. We're guessing this isn't how Google wanted things to play out. 2. Samsung's iTest Lets iPhone Users Tap Into a Galaxy Smartphone Samsung is testing a new interactive website called iTest to tempt people away from iOS. When accessed from an iPhone, users are treated to a simulated Galaxy smartphone that has a few apps, settings, themes, and more to play with. That's certainly one way to sample a new phone. 3. Twitch Viewership More Than Doubled in 2021 Twitch has more than doubled its viewership in 2021, rising from 3.1 billion hours watched in Q1 2020 to 6.3 billions hours. Reports say quarantine was a huge factor, but it doesn't look like Twitch will slow down as things approach normalcy. People really like watching other people play games and talk. 🦑 Go Deeper Yahoo Answers is shutting down next month, but its impact on the internet can't be understated. Allison Matyus has the deep dive on the good and bad of the question-answer platform. 🎱 By the Numbers There's a stream for everyone Data: Streamlabs A lot of people are on Twitch these days, but that's not to say people weren't watching before. Even in the final months of 2020, viewers watched over 5 billion hours of Twitch streams. Its current high of 6.3 billion is impressive in a vacuum, but pretty expected if you've kept an eye on the platform. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
The Google Nest Thermostat is down to $100 on Amazon right now. Grab one, set up Eco mode, and get better control over your home's temperature ahead of Earth Day (April 22). 🤓 Nerd Out "That belongs in a digital museum!" —Rob LeFebvre, Senior News Editor Preservation group Hidden Palace obtained over 700 prototype PlayStation 2 games last month, which included demos shown at events like E3. It's a pretty big haul, amounting to over 900GB of data. Gonna need a bigger SSD. Enter the VanMoof X3, which touts a smaller frame, smoother ride, electronic gear shifting, and anti-theft tech. That's right, this bike has onboard alarms, smart location tracking, and a remote lockdown mode. Sure, it's $2000, but it's theftproof! That's cool! 🎧 Listen Up Penny for your thoughts, Mr. Cook?
