April 30, 2021
It's April 30, 2021. It's Friday, which means another music playlist to carry you into the weekend. Enjoy. Apple Music | Spotify ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 330 articles, 12 podcasts, 14 press releases, 278 tweets, and 10 YouTube videos 1. New iMac, iPad Pro, and Apple TV 4K Expected to Launch May 21 New reports from 9to5Mac and others are pointing to a launch date of May 21 for the new iMac, iPad Pro, and Apple TV 4K. This lines up with Apple previously stating they'd be out "in the second half of May," so if it's not true, it's at least pretty close. Pre-orders start today, so claim yours asap. 2. You Can Now Help Google Assistant Pronounce Unique Names Those frustrated with how Google Assistant says uncommon names can now teach it proper pronunciation. The learning feature will roll out over the next few days, enabling the assistant to remember how you say certain names "without keeping a recording of your voice." We like both of these things. 3. Windows 10 May 2021 Update Coming Soon The next Windows 10 update is almost here, with Microsoft explaining it's now preparing the May 2021 update, also known as version 21H1. Windows Insiders get the update first, but when it's ready for the public, expect a number of security and error fixes. Nothing too exciting, but maybe that's for the best. 🦑 Go Deeper Apple and Spotify have new paid podcast subscription plans, but who's really benefiting from it? Joshua Hawkins and a few experts think it'll be bad for both podcasters and listeners. 🎱 By the Numbers Anyone remember Windows 8? Data: Statcounter Windows 10 has become the main Windows OS running on PCs, and we bet Microsoft prefers it that way. There's still ~20% of people using Windows 7, but we're surprised some machines still use Windows 8.1. As for XP, 8, and Vista? Well, combined, they make up less than 2% of the Windows OS marketshare. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal

"Netflix, Play Something"
April 29, 2021
It's April 29, 2021. It's National Shrimp Scampi Day! Don't know what to make for dinner tonight? We think we just figured it out for you. You're welcome. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 313 articles, 9 podcasts, 11 press releases, 256 tweets, and 10 YouTube videos 1. Netflix's 'Play Something' Feature Picks the Movie/Show for You If you find yourself opening Netflix without something in mind to watch, its new 'Play Something' feature may help you out. Simply press the 'Play Something' button and Netflix will choose a show or movie based on what it thinks you like. Time to find out if Netflix really pays attention to us. 2. CES Will Return to Las Vegas Next Year The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) will return as an in-person event in Las Vegas in 2022. The Consumer Technology Association announced it will run from January 5-8, with ~1,000 companies set to attend, including Amazon, Google, and Lenovo. We suggest not booking a flight just yet, though. 3. Sony Sold 7.8 Million PlayStation 5 Consoles Sony has now sold 7.8 million PS5s since its launch last November. Previously, we knew the company sold 4.5 million consoles in 2020, meaning it added another 3.3 million between January and March. Nice. We're not surprised the demand is still there, but we still have questions about the supply. 🦑 Go Deeper iOS 14.5 just hit our iPhones, but is it really worth the upgrade? Charlie Sorrel thinks so, and walks us through all the ways it makes life easier. 🎱 By the Numbers How could you not share? Data: Business of Apps We can't imagine using Netflix and not sharing it (or being the person who it's shared with), and it seems like over 50% of Netflix users are in the same situation. The more surprising percentage is for the people who don't share, and we can't decide if "Why?!" or "How?!" is the more appropriate question. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
Samsung's Galaxy Buds+ are down to $99 on Best Buy today, $50 off its usual price. Grab a pair in black, white, red, or blue and jam to your favorite music. 🤓 Nerd Out "Earth is all grown up." —Molly McLaughlin, Senior Content Strategist It's sometimes hard to tell how much a place has changed. Google Earth's latest Timelapse feature should help with our view of the world, at least, so load it up, pick an area, and take note of time's subtle effect on a place. (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It One day they'll be real Image: Omni Hoverboards We're still pining for real, Back to the Future-like hoverboards, and Omni Hoverboards may be our best bet yet. Omni isn't selling boards just yet, but they have patents for their gear, and their mark-1 prototype has already set a Guinness record after traveling 275.9m. Keep an eye on them. We sure will. 🎮 Up-Down-A-B-Start Hold that pose! It's been over 20 years since the original Pokemon Snap for the Nintendo 64. Does its 2021 successor, New Pokemon Snap, capture the same feeling? Waypoint is a little torn, saying it meets some expectations, but fails to reach others. Give it a read. 🗞 Extra! Extra! We've got you covered with the best in daily tech news!
