MARCH 12, 2021
It's March 12, 2021. Nice job making it to another Friday! Here's some music to help you cruise into the weekend. Apple Music | Spotify ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 308 articles, 7 podcasts, 13 press releases, 444 tweets, and 22 YouTube videos 1. WatchOS 7.4 Will Help You Unlock Your iPhone While Masked Up WatchOS 7.4 isn't out yet, but its public beta has revealed the update, when combined with iOS 14.5, will let you use your Apple Watch for Face ID authentication to unlock your iPhone while wearing a mask. Finally, no more exposing your face in public when all you want to do is check your texts. 2. Google Maps Will Let You Draw New & Missing Roads Next time you realize the road you're on (or looking for) isn't on Google Maps, you can add it yourself. Over the next few months, Google will enable users to go to maps.google.com and draw any missing roads, so if you see Maps has overlooked a new street, head to the site and help out your fellow travelers. 3. Vudu Comes to Amazon Fire TV Vudu is now available on Amazon Fire TV, though we could've swore the streaming service was there already. Either way, it brings its full catalog of movies, TV shows, rentals, and more. So if you couldn't watch a certain thing before, surely now you must be able to. What isn't on Fire TV at this point? 🦑 Go Deeper Facebook recently trained an AI using 1 billion Instagram photos. Kinda cool? Sure. A privacy concern? Absolutely. Sascha Brodsky has the deep dive on the latter, and why people should be more aware of who can use their social media posts. 🎱 By the Numbers A watch for every wrist Data: Above Avalon Like the iPhone, the Apple Watch continues to be popular, and its estimated install base is only expected to increase. Between fitness, Siri, letting us check texts without our phones, and just being a stylish-looking watch, Apple really nailed it with this one. Wrists out, everyone! Show off a little. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
Apple's MagSafe charger is perfect for simultaneously charging your iPhone, Apple Watch, and/or your AirPods, and it's almost $30 off on Best Buy right now. Is that a deal? It's a deal. 🤓 Nerd Out "Almost as exciting as an Amazon package." — Rob LeFebvre, Senior News Editor Some wake up to a newspaper in their driveway or fresh snow on the ground. One family in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, though, woke up to a valuable meteorite instead. One that could provide new insight on how our planets were formed. (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It Bigger on the inside Image: Crucial It's time to back up all your photos and files to a good SSD, and Crucial's 4TB portable SSD has space to spare. It's big enough to store your games, photos, and more, yet small enough to fit in your pocket. If you're in need of more space and won't miss the $490, we don't see why you wouldn't want this. 🎥 Behind the Scenes Listen for the difference The Simpsons has been around for over 30 years. Considering how much audio of various voice actors exist, could AI be used to replicate their voices and characters? That's what this Wired story explores, shedding light on how powerful (and worrying) deepfakes have the potential to be. 🗞 Extra! Extra! We've got you covered with the best in daily tech news!
