FEBRUARY 15, 2021
It's February 15, 2021. On this day in 2005, YouTube launched, becoming the video site Google bought just two years later. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 391 articles, 11 podcasts, 13 press releases, 554 tweets, and 9 YouTube videos 1. Canon Introduces Photo Culling iPhone App You know how it is: You take a dozen photos of your subject, choosing the best one to share with friends, family, and social media. But all those other extra shots remain. Now, Canon has an iPhone app that will help you delete the duplicates. It's $15 a year, or $4 a month, so pick your poison. 2. Lyft Makes It Easier to Get People to Vaccinations From Afar If you have a friend or family member that needs to get to a vaccination appointment, but doesn't quite know how to manage the Lyft app, now you can get them moving remotely with Lyft. Just "Add Rider" for quick access. 3. TikTok and WeChat Bans Put on Hold Remember the whole "TikTok has to sell to a US company or face a ban" way back in the Trump administration? Well, now the Biden folks have basically put that on hold, along with a similar ban for WeChat. There are no details on when (or if) it will ever be dealt with in the future. 🦑 Go Deeper Pundits all over the web are crowing about the slow sales of Apple's iPhone 12 mini. Our very own Charlie Sorrel has a different take: It doesn't matter, because they're really great iPhones for people who want one. 🎱 By the Numbers Still on top, Apple Data: VG Sales Apple's iPhones do really well every time a new one launches, and it was no different for the launch of the iPhone 12. Sure, the iPhone 12 mini's sales aren't as high as other iPhone models, but taken as a whole, iPhones are doing just fine, thank you. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
Get these great-sounding Beats Flex wireless earphones with the Apple W1 chip in them for instant connection to your iPhone (or Mac!), for a stunningly cheap $40 over at Amazon. Scientists have finally been able to observe some weird blue lightning in Earth's upper atmosphere, thanks to the International Space Station. The jets of electricity shoot up into the stratosphere from thunderclouds. Wow!
