January 8, 2021
It's January 8, 2021. It's both National Argyle Day and National English Toffee Day, so you know what we're doing later. How about you? ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 587 articles, 9 podcasts, 18 press releases, 435 tweets, and 8 YouTube videos 1. Lenovo's New All-In-One PC Rotates to Portrait Mode Just like your phone, where you can view stuff in landscape (most video) or portrait (TikTok videos) mode, the new Windows-based Yoga AIO 7 from Lenovo has a little hinge that lets you flip from one orientation to the next. Should make watching viral videos a little nicer on your PC, yeah? 2. TikTok Uses iPhone Pro LIDAR to Celebrate the New Year Finally, a use for that expensive iPhone 12 Pro. TikTok has created a filter that uses LIDAR to place a New Year's Eve effect, complete with a golden ball and confetti! You'll have to have an iPhone 12 Pro or Pro Max to see it, though. 3. New Facial Recognition Can Defeat Masks A Japanese company has launched a new facial recognition system that can identify people even while wearing masks, which could prove useful for those of us who want to unlock our phones with our faces. Or, you know, governments trying to identify people who wear masks, as well. 🦑 Go Deeper CES is coming (virtually), and our own Allison Matyus reports on a trend for the show in health and wellness apps and gadgets to help you sleep better, relax a bit, and maybe even stress less. 🎱 By the Numbers Virtually attended Data: eMarketer The number of people going to CES in Vegas every January has been steadily rising. This year's virtual conference could end up reaching more people, however, even if it won't be quite as "fun." Pretty good for an event that started in Chicago in 1967. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal

What a fascinating find! (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It The only wall we all want Image: Belkin Not only is this amazing "The Wall" OLED from Samsung super thin and bevel-less, it can display up to four different sources on its gloriously maximum surface. If nothing else, you can sit in your living room and pretend you're Batman. 🎥 Behind the Scenes I used to be an adventurer like you... It's rumored that Netflix is looking to create its next great adaptation from The Elder Scrolls, the video game franchise from Bethesda that's still selling strong, even several years out from release.
