January 15, 2021
It's January 15, 2021. Buh bye, CES; see you next year. Be sure to see all our coverage of this big event right here. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don't have to): 248 articles, 11 podcasts, 12 press releases, 523 tweets, and 8 YouTube videos 1. Samsung Unpacks a Bunch of New Flagship Gadgets Samsung revealed a ton of new iterations of its popular tech during the Unpacked event, with the Samsung Galaxy S21 series of phones taking the spotlight. Models start at $799 and should be in the wild January 29th. 2. Google Owns Fitbit Now Welp, that's another step towards tech consolidation. Google has completed its acquisition of wearable superstar FitBit, bringing the latter's fitness devices under the Google brand. They did ok with Nest, so this has potential. 3. Oculus to Add Multiuser Support to Quest 2 Tired of your kids messing up your Beat Saber progression? Facebook-owned Oculus has a plan to bring multiple accounts to your Quest 2 (and the original Quest, eventually), making it much easier to share one headset. They're also planning to add app sharing to single and multiple headsets. Finally! 🦑 Go Deeper Day three of CES 2021 was all about gaming, electric vehicles, and (apparently) a big warning from Microsoft. Read all about it in Matthew S. Smith's roundup right here. 🎱 By the Numbers No wonder Google bought 'em Data: Business of Apps Fitbit's been on the rise for years now, with a pretty clear increase in active users over the years. Here's hoping Google won't mess with a good thing. 🔥 Today's Hot Deal
If what you want is a sleek Chromebook at an absolutely bargain-basement price, the Acer 315 is exactly what you need. Ridiculously cheap at $179, it packs a respectable Intel Celeron N4000, 32GB of fast eMMC storage, and a 1366x768 LED. 🤓 Nerd Out "Keep it together, y'all." -Rob LeFebvre, Senior News Editor Instead of playing Pokémon together on a Twitch stream, now it can be played with others on this developer's profile pic. It's like all the fun of playing in a group without the trash comments. (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It Now we're hungry Image: BioLite Biolite's smokeless fire pit and grill uses an app to control the flames, and a battery to manage the cooking, which can use wood or charcoal. How cool is that? It comes with a ton of accessories, too, to help you manage your outdoor food prep regardless of season. 🎥 Behind the Scenes This is the way. You've likely seen the high-tech video game engine-powered 360-degree screens they use on The Mandalorian to make your favorite Star Wars TV show, but now Sony's getting into the act with its high-end Crystal LED modular screens. You'll likely see this tech in shows sometime soon. 🗞 Extra! Extra! We've got you covered with the best in daily tech news! See the latest on our site or follow us on Google News.
